Funding Opportunities

Here you'll find a summary of current Children and Young People funding opportunities available to clubs and community groups in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough.

The aim of these funds is to engage with young people who are not regularly taking part in sport and physical activity, helping to shape positive sport and physical activity in local communities - see list at the bottom of this page. Living Sport distributes children and young people funds on behalf of Sport England.

Children and Young People Inclusive Futures Fund

This fund is centred around co-production of projects for underserved groups of young people. Projects must demonstrate youth voice at the heart of the project.

Grants are available so groups and organisations can deliver activity through co-production of extra–curricular physical activity opportunities with young people most likely to be inactive, with a focus on secondary age young people.

Funding can cover coach or instructor costs, facility hire, equipment, qualifications, marketing and training opportunities to encourage sustainability of projects.

Projects must be delivered over a minimum of 12 weeks, meeting minimum operating standards, with projects demonstrating sustainability plans post project.

    Funding up to £1200 available.

    Youth Empowerment Projects

Our youth empowerment projects delivered both within targeted schools and community groups, give young people an opportunity to develop new youth led sport and physical activity, shaped around their needs, within after school environments or within the local community.

The project involves delivery of workshops to targeted groups of young people, helping them to understand barriers and motivations to their participation in sport and physical activity; and an opportunity to shape a new sporting offer that fits their needs, being the right offer, delivered in the right style, at the right location and cost.

For further information about education youth empowerment projects, please contact David Welch, and for community empowerment projects, please contact Megan Fey.

    Funding up to £1000 available.

    Monitoring and Evaluation Process

There will be a commitment from organisations to complete monitoring and evaluation of projects through various formats including case studies, registers, focus groups, stories and learnings.

    Application Process

Please note that there are two stages of the application process for Children and Young People funds:

    • Initial conversation with Project Lead, Sally Gibson, about the scope of your project. To arrange a meeting with Sally, please book a convenient time using this link Schedule a meeting

    • For Inclusive Futures funding, there will be an expectation by the organisation and a young person to “pitch” the idea to the Living Sport Youth Panel who will provide feedback and decide on whether the proposed project receives funding.

    • For Youth Empowerment projects, there will be an expectation for young people to "pitch" their proposal to a panel who will provide feedback and decide on whether the proposed project receives funding.

Target Groups of Children and Young People:

    • Young people with a diverse ethnicity
    • Females
    • Young people with special educational needs
    • Young people from lower socio economic backgrounds
    • Young people with mental ill health/poor mental health
    • Looked after young people
    • Young carers
    • LGBTQ+ young people
    • Young people involved in youth justice
    • Migrant young people

    We work with:

    • Youth organisations
    • Community organisations
    • Charities
    • Sports clubs
    • Local authorities
    • National governing bodies
