Primary PE & School Sport Premium

Living Sport and our partners are working to support schools who are are tasked with ensuring the Primary PE and School Sport Premium is used to fund improvements to the provision of Physical Education and Sport, for the benefit of primary-aged pupils so that they develop healthy lifestyles.

Specifically, the premium should be used:

  • To develop or add to the PE and sport activities that your school already offers
  • Make improvements now that will benefit pupils joining the school in future years

Physical Education and sport can contribute to overall whole school improvement, priorities and outcomes as well as the attitudes, behaviour and achievement of pupils.  It is important to consider options for maximising and sustaining the impact of this funding and the following pages offer information about some of the local and national partners and their offers.  Prior to allocating any of your funding it is important to carry out the following:

  • An audit into the needs of the school, staff, children and young people
  • Select appropriate strategies to address the needs
  • Ensure the improvement impacts on young people supported by evidence for the Ofsted monitoring process.

If your school receives PE (physical education) and sport premium funding, you must publish:

  • amount of funding you received
  • a full breakdown of how you’ve spent the funding or will spend the funding
  • the effect of the premium on pupils’ PE and sport participation and attainment
  • how you’ll make sure these improvements are sustainable.

Our Primary School Offer:

Living Sport are working with Ian Roberts, Cambridgeshire County Council’s Advisor for Physical Education, to offer support and guidance to Primary Schools around the Primary Sports Premium funding. This support is part of the Government’s drive to ensure that the Sport Premium is used as effectively as possible in all schools.

We are offering schools, who feel they need support, a free review of their PE and sport provision with an experienced advisor. They will work with the Head Teacher and subject leader to help assess the existing PE and Sport delivery and then offer advice about what the school might choose to plan to do, sharing all the good quality agency support that is available from both local and national partners. They can then arrange a follow up meeting to review your plans if this is required.

The aim of this work is to ensure:

  • Clear independent advice is given schools due to the wide range of offers available
  • That the maximum impact is gained by schools from Primary Sports Premium funding
  • That schools are ready for inspections by Ofsted who will be monitoring the impact of the Primary Sports Premium funding
