Melbourn Dynamos Football Club

Founded in 2003, Melbourn Dynamos FC is a thriving and friendly Charter Standard community Hub Club that gives everyone the opportunity to play regular football regardless of their experience or ability at all ages and has now developed into a Club of 320 players with 23 teams who are supported by 43 coaches, 12 of which are trained Mental Health  First Aiders (Youth).

The Club offers weekly drop in sessions for mixed and girls only sessions for 3-6 year olds, competitive football for all age groups between U7-U18 which includes a girls team at U14 and an U10 girls group who play friendlies, a Sunday men’s team and our newest addition – the Jaguars and OWLS!

The Club was the first to receive the Pledge Project Certificate of Recognition from Cambs FA and were very proud to have recently received the Project of the Year award from Cambs FA for their commitment to offer everyone with a disability the opportunity to get involved in football, either competitively or socially.

The OWLS, Opportunities Without Limits is a team for adults who play in the Cambs FA Parability League and are coached by Gail Williams, Papworth Trust Activities Facilitator who says,

“It has been a great first season for the team! Huge progress has been made in the weekly indoor/outdoor sessions and there’s never a shortage of enthusiasm and commitment which has enabled the team to take on unfamiliar opponents. During this difficult time it is fantastic to be awarded Project of the Year 2020. To be recognised by others is amazing and a BIG thanks goes to Melbourn Dynamos for the kits, guidance and support.”

Cally explains what being part of the team means, ““I love football and love my team. I am so proud to be a part of Melbourn Dynamos OWLS - the team gives me so much confidence! When we return can we have a big party to celebrate?”

Assistant Coach, Paul Ilott adds, “Everyone involved with the OWLS have seen first hand the enthusiasm and hard work put in by the team and how important football has become in all their lives. They have been given the opportunity to train regularly and play matches which has been a great boost to their self-esteem as well as their general fitness and gives them all something to look forward to each week.”

Club Chairman, Blake Carrington says, “We’re delighted to have been given the opportunity to support Papworth Trust. Gail and Paul have been instrumental in getting the project off the ground and I know that everyone involved are really appreciative of their efforts. I’ve been fortunate to have met the team on a couple of occasions, both at training and match day and their enjoyment and support of each other is plain to see. They’re a great bunch of guys who have a lot of fun, which was very evident when they enjoyed a recent session with Luke Chadwick and the Football Fun Factory team! The Club have received excellent support from Cambs FA and a special thanks must go to Sarah Hudson for all the advice, support and guidance she’s given us.  We’re immensely proud to be a part of such a super group and the Project of the Award is for all of them too.”

The Club have also established the Jaguars, a new inclusive drop in session for children with additional needs or a disability and are committed to being totally inclusive by financially assisting players whose families are unable to afford the standard fees.

The Club is also committed to supporting the health and wellbeing of the whole community and have been working very hard as a Partner Club involved in a three year project responsible for the expected delivery of a new full size 3G facility at Melbourn Village College.
