The Richard Darton Tennis Foundation (RDTF) is offering free places on tennis coaching courses during the Easter and Summer holidays 2022 throughout Cambridgeshire and Peterborough. Tennis clubs around the county are taking part including Cambridge, Wisbech, Peterborough, Ely, Shelford, Huntingdon, St Neots. The sessions are available for children between ages 4-17 with additional needs such as learning disabilities or young carers for instance; tennis rackets are provided.

Sessions will be delivered inclusively in small groups. Children and young people with disabilities and additional needs are welcome and the clubs will do all they can to cater for their needs alongside other children and young people from a variety of backgrounds. The courses vary in length depending on the child’s age and ability as well as their needs and wishes. The main emphasis is on the children having fun!

All courses are run by LTA (Lawn Tennis Association) registered coaches at the various tennis clubs. Clubs will be subject to Covid-19 restrictions and will be Covid secure, following LTA and Government guidance, sessions will be subject to change if the guidance changes.

In addition to the holiday programmes there is also the opportunity to do after school tennis groups during term time at some of the clubs.

Anyone interested in finding out more about the sessions on offer can contact Steve Shaw who is a volunteer with the RDTF. Steve will discuss with you, your child’s needs and what is offered at the nearest tennis club to where you live. Please contact Steve Shaw or contact him on 07485 279776

If there are any adults with additional needs interested in tennis please also contact Steve, who will be able to assist and sign post to a club if possible.

About Richard Darton Tennis Foundation:

The Richard Darton Tennis Foundation works to give as many children as possible the opportunity to play tennis to a high standard and for the sport to have a positive impact on their lives. It aims to give opportunities to children that without the charity's support they would not otherwise have.

The focus of the charity is to improve the quality of life for children through playing tennis and at the end of their journey get them into a position where a career in tennis coaching is an option should they so wish to pursue it. Along the way this would involve keeping fit, having good role models supporting them, learning lifelong social skills and ultimately giving them something to be proud of.
