Send Short Swimming Courses (5 to 13yrs)

Living Sport and Pinpoint have been working with leisure provider Better to help parents of children with SEND access swimming lessons. Better are planning to run Crash Courses specifically for children with ASD or those that want to try lessons to see if they like them and might not like a larger group setting.

These crash courses are designed as an introduction to swimming lessons. Run over five days, half an hour a day, the class will have a maximum of eight children with two experienced teachers running each class. The teachers will work with the children, assess their swimming level, and lesson requirement with the aim that if the child wants to continue with lessons they can. If this requires smaller classes, additional help etc., this will be provided at the cost of a mainstream group lesson thanks to funding from Sport England and the National Lottery.

Both pools have areas where parents can watch, and vending machines are available. The sessions have been arranged when the pools/centres will be at their quietest to avoid any unnecessary stress.

If you can’t make one of these sessions but are interested, contact Better who can assess demand.  If finances are an issue, contact Better as, depending on circumstances, they may be able to offer support.

Can’t make these sessions!

If for any reason you would like swimming lessons for your child, but these sessions are not suitable due to location, dates, times, Living Sport would like to hear from you. Before they start work trying to arrange alternative sessions, they need to know if and where there is interest.

Contact Rebecca Evans by email and let her know the area you live in, age of your child, times that suit you and your family. Having this information will make it less difficult for her to apply for funding and prove interest to providers.

Do also ask at your local pool about what they offer. Many are willing to help if they can and can add families to waiting lists. If you do this Rebecca would be interested to know the response you get good or bad!
