Young people in Whittlesey have been given the opportunity to design and create their very own sports projects in the town including Glow Sports sessions and a skateboarding event.

Living Sport worked with Phoenix Youth Provision to facilitate Dragons’ Den workshops for young people aged 11-16 In the Whittlesey area. The workshops provide young people with the training and skills to research, design and plan ideas for new sports and physical activity provision in the area. The groups are then required to pitch their ideas to a panel made up of local community contacts, Phoenix Youth Provision and Living Sport. The successful pitches gain investment of up to £1000 from Living Sport’s Inclusive Futures fund to turn the ideas in to a reality.

Following successful workshops held in February and March new projects funded for Whittlesey include a youth led Skate Park event scheduled for the Summer, and new Glow Sports sessions to be held during youth club evenings.

Di Coulson, Youth Worker for Phoenix Youth Provision, said “The young people felt empowered after their Dragons’ Den workshop with Living Sport.  This led to them consulting with 75 peers to find out what alternative sporting activities would be well received for the town.  They worked extremely hard on their presentations for their Glow Sports and Skate Park Event pitches developing new skills and sharing ideas.  We witnessed their confidence growing through the process and are very proud of their achievements. Thank You Living Sport for giving the young people a voice and supporting their ideas”.
